Alum Rock Park Parking Fees Increase on July 1

Alum Rock Park Supervisor Mike Will has asked NNV to let our readers know that the San Jose City Council has approved the Fee Resolution for the next fiscal year. Effective July 1, 2003, parking fees for San Jose Regional parks, including Alum Rock Park, will increase. The basic car parking fee will increase from $5.00 to $6.00. Click here for the new fee schedule – seniors (60 or older) and others are eligible for discounts; annual and 10-visit permits are available.

No one wants to see park fees increase but, as you can imagine, City services and personnel have already been cut in the new City budget for the next fiscal year and raising fees is probably better than deeper cuts. We do want the City to maintain a minimum level of services in our Parks, including the annual work to prepare Alum Rock Park for the upcoming fire season.

Click here for more information on Alum Rock Park. The Park is open daily from 8 a.m. until one-half hour after sunset.

See our Community Bulletin Board for information on upcoming meetings:

You can read the current edition of NNV online at http://www.nnvesj.org/Current.htm. NNV will be back with the next regular edition in early August.

And here’s a reminder on the trail work in Alum Rock Park:

Alum Rock Park Trail Work Continues, Volunteers Invited – June 21

The next Alum Rock Park Trail Volunteer session is set for Saturday, June 21 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. The North Rim/Todd Quick Trail areas were taken care of over the past two sessions so next will be the South Rim where it will be cooler to work.

For those of you coming up for the first time, remember to bring appropriate protective clothing (comfortable shoes or boots, long pants, sleeves, gloves, hat), glasses, sun screen, water, snacks, etc.

As always, an RSVP would be appreciated. Any questions? E-mail Ken Ford at KNFRD@aol.com or phone 408-524-7909 (office) 408-529-5027 (cell).

Thanks,
